“The State Board of Education approved a one-year pilot project of Missouri’s new Educator Evaluation System for the 2012-2013 school year. The new system focuses on the improvement of effective educational practices and the professional development of teachers, principals and school superintendents. The Educator Evaluation System fulfills a portion of Goal 3 of the Department’s Top 10 by 20 initiative, which states that Missouri will prepare, develop and support effective educators. The Top 10 by 20 initiative is the state plan to launch Missouri into the top 10 states by the year 2020.”                  – DESE

This fall, to help prepare St. Louis area districts for the model used in the Educator Evaluation System, Cooperating School Districts and the St. Louis Regional Professional Development Center will introduce essential components of the evaluation model during a 1-day workshop. (DESE has also developed a FAQ about the new system, which can be seen here: Frequently Asked Questions.)

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is sponsoring these requisite trainings throughout the state for districts. District administrative teams of up to five members are required to attend one of the meetings; the agenda includes an overview of the new state model, a description of the essential elements, and a summary of the system auditing.

Participants will expand awareness and enhance learning and understanding of the evaluation system. During the training they elect to attend, participants will learn more about the pilot (see agreement form). Once this pilot project is complete, the system will be further refined based on feedback, with the resulting system available for use by districts starting with the 2013-2014 school year.
