Discovery Education streaming is a digital content service brought to educators by Discovery Communications, LLC. The possibilities of using Discovery Education streaming in the classroom are endless: this resource empowers educators to capture teachable moments, incorporate clips into multimedia presentations and student learning environments, and is ideal for project and inquiry-based learning. Using DE streaming, teachers can:
- Explore the Calendar of Events with important dates in history linked to video clips & other practical resources
- Search the Clip Art library, plus find over 2,500 additional images from nationally recognized photographers and artists
- Create student accounts for resource organization & assigned work; (a student can then access his or her account from home or school)
- Utilize the Ready Zone & STEM Connect
- … plus much more
Cooperating School Districts has partnered with Discovery Education. As part of that partnership, CSD has a DE STAR teacher on staff to offer professional development. Stephanie Madlinger is our current lead trainer for all Discovery Education products. She has over 20 years of experience in education, including both classroom teaching experience and leadership in instructional technology.
Today Stephanie is teaching a workshop in CSD’s tele (technology enhanced learning environment) called Taking Discovery Education streaming to the Next Level. (See more images of this workshop on Flickr). Topics of discussion included building quizzes, assignments, and writing prompts within your account; bookmarking favorite DE videos and resources into organized folders; as well as differentiating lessons. Much of the conversation on using writing prompts focused on upcoming Common Core State Standards’ requirements, and how the DE resource would prove helpful.
Keep in mind that CSD offers professional development on Discovery Education throughout the year; check with www.csd.org regularly for training and workshop dates. If you do not have Discovery Education in your school district, but are interested in it, contact CSD’s Terry Baker or Sandy Happold for more information about pricing and account management.
